Simple Skincare Routine: What Order Should You Use?
Share
A simple skincare routine is easier to follow when every product has a clear purpose. If you are unsure about skincare routine order, start with cleansing, moisturising and daytime sun protection, then consider whether you actually need any additional steps.
What order should you apply skincare?
For a basic morning routine using separate products, cleanse first, follow with moisturiser, then apply sunscreen before make-up. Follow the directions on each product. If you use a prescribed skin treatment, its instructions and your clinician's advice take priority over a general routine.
The American Academy of Dermatology places cleansing before treatment products, followed by moisturiser and/or sunscreen, with make-up afterwards. Its advice also emphasises that using too many products can irritate skin.
Build your routine around three jobs
1. Cleanse
Choose a cleanser intended for your skin and use it as directed. A rinse-off cleanser and a make-up remover may have different instructions, so check the label rather than treating them as interchangeable. Browse FREZYDERM Face Care and compare the purpose of each product before buying.
2. Moisturise
Select a moisturiser by its intended skin type, texture and directions. The Skin Hydration collection lets you compare options in one place. You can also read the full information for Moisturizing 24h Cream 50ml before deciding whether it fits your routine.
3. Add daytime sun protection
Use a sunscreen suited to the intended area and follow its application instructions. Compare options in Sun Care. Our SPF30 versus SPF50 guide explains what to check beyond the number on the pack.
Keep the evening routine practical
Cleanse before bed and use your chosen moisturiser according to its directions. Any additional treatment should have a specific purpose and fit its own instructions. The AAD recommends keeping the basics simple; an expensive or lengthy routine is not a requirement for effective skin care.
A shopping checklist before adding another product
- Purpose: does it cleanse, moisturise, protect or address a separate concern?
- Suitability: does its description match your skin and the area where you plan to use it?
- Directions: when and how does the manufacturer say to apply it?
- Overlap: do you already own something that serves the same purpose?
Write down the products you already use before shopping. This makes it easier to see a missing step and avoids buying several products simply because they appear together in a routine.
Do you need a serum or toner?
Neither needs to be an automatic purchase. Begin with the basics, then decide whether an extra product has a clear role. For persistent irritation or uncertainty about a skin condition, seek individual advice from a pharmacist or dermatologist.
Explore a ready-made pairing
The Routines & Duos collection groups complementary products for convenient browsing. Read each product's information separately: a pairing is a shopping suggestion, not a personalised assessment of your skin.
